Father Michael McGivney

Above is the late, great, Father Michael McGivney, born of Irish immigrants in the United States in 1852. He was simply a parish priest who did his priestly duty day after day in his two parish churches.

When Father McGivney was a child, his dream was to become a Catholic priest. As soon as he could, he entered seminary and eventually attended several before his ordination. In 1877 he was ordained by Cardinal James Gibbons of Baltimore.

As he served as a parish priest in the Hartford Diocese in Connecticut, he saw the need for a fraternal orginization for Catholic men to participate in. So, in 1882 in the basement of St. Mary's Church, Father McGivney founded the Knights of Colombus.

Father McGivney is the ideal parish priest. He was a simple man, whose faith in God and the Catholic Church never wavered. Follow his example, and pray for him.

Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, Pray for us!
